Listen to other Internet without Fear shows
Our guest this week is Marcus Mac Innes of Pix.ie and we will discuss how pictures are important for the online world, and how online photo sharing works in Ireland.
The show is sponsored by ICS Skills, who bring you Equalskills the fun and exciting way for complete beginners to learn all about using computers and the internet – for young and old.
As we are learning, the internet is part of our lives with over 50% of the population connected.
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and in today’s online world it’s definitely being confirmed. So many people are now sending pictures over the internet?
Facts Section
The majority of pictures shared online are photographs. Perhaps only a few people know that modern photography began in the 1820s with the first permanent photographs.
Later on modern film cameras were invented and today we are talking about digital cameras which enable us to view pictures on a computer screen, paste them into electronic documents or computer graphic designs, and email them to our friends.
With the acceptable image quality and the other advantages of digital photography (particularly the time pressures of vital importance to daily newspapers) the majority of professional news photographers have begun capturing their images with digital cameras.
Digital photography has also been adopted by many amateur snapshot photographers, who take advantage of the convenience of the form when sending images by email, placing them on the World Wide Web, or displaying them in digital picture frames. Digital cameras have also been integrated into many cell phones, which makes taking pictures and putting them on the Internet even easier.
